Pro Se Divorce
A pro se divorce is a divorce handled by one of the parties to the divorce who is appearing on his or her own behalf. Even in very simple divorces, there are numerous laws and previous case decisions that can affect the decisions made by a court order upon a divorce petition prepared without consideration to those cases.
The Constitution of the United States protects your right to represent yourself in a court of law. That same Constitution also protects your right to an attorney if you accused of a crime. There is good reason for those protections. Representing yourself is your right; protecting your financial future is your obligation to yourself.
If you represent yourself, you will be held to the same standards as if you were an attorney. You will be expected to know the law and how that law is applied to your case and circumstances. You will be expected to conduct your case as if you were a lawyer - and responsible for knowing the court's procedures, required forms, and processes.
Before you step into the courtroom, you may want to take advantage of the free initial consultation offered by Stillings & Buchinger, LLC and speak with Attorney Gordon E. Stillings or Attorney Melody Buchinger about your case.
